For the month of April, Fort Detrick recognized the Military Child and Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention.

The Fort Detrick Family Advocacy Program hosted a "Keeping Kids Safe" event here at Fort Detrick and one at Forest Glen.

"All the families came together for a great time and learned more about available resources both on and off post for child safety," said Cynthia Harne, FAP manager.

Kids and their families enjoyed various activities including hands-on activities and learned how to protect them from a variety of events. Among these events was the "firehouse" which was brought by the Fort Detrick Fire Department which educates youth about how to exit from a smoky room. Child ID kits, puppet shows that focused on bullying and safety were just a few of the highlights of the day.

The Forest Glen event was partnered with Child Youth Services and included community partners such as Montgomery County Tree House, Child Advocacy Center in Montgomery County, Montgomery County Child Protective Services, Military One Source and American Red Cross.
