The Ability One Base Supply Center operated by Blind Industries and Services of Maryland recently opened on Joint Base Andrews. The store has more than 2,500 office supply items in stock and more than 50,000 items that can be ordered for next-day delivery.

The supply center is located in Building 3066 on East Perimeter Road here and is open from 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

The Base Supply Center program, created in 1995, filled a void on many military installations by providing a retail-type store that sells everything from office and cleaning supplies to uniforms. The BSC initiative is administered under the Ability One Program, which creates employment opportunities for people who are blind or severely disabled through the sale of products and services sold to the federal government and U.S. military. Blind and visually-impaired associates play an important role in all aspects of BISM’s Ability One BSC operations.

Andrews Ability One BSC manager Michael Backstrom, Jay McWhite, and blind associates Keith Tyson and Marcus Taylor, are looking forward to meeting Andrews personnel and can be reached at 301-599-0316.

BISM, a not-for-profit organization, offers comprehensive rehabilitation programs and services, along with diverse employment opportunities for blind and visually impaired people of all ages. To learn more about Blind Industries and Services of Maryland, visit www.bism.org.
