Death notice

Anyone with debts owed to or by the estate of Sgt. Alan Castillo, Headquarters Company, 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), must contact Capt. Christopher Miorin, the summary court officer for the Soldier. Sgt. Castillo passed away March 21, 2012. Call Miorin at 703-696-1007 during normal business hours.

Zumbathon

The Family Advocacy Program will host a zumbathon on Saturday, April 14 at the JBM-HH Community Center from 10 a.m.-noon. The event will promote a holistic approach (physical, emotional, spiritual, social and Family) to Family wellness and prevention of Family violence. AC switch over

Directorate of Public Works personnel have begun the annual change-over process from heating to air conditioning. All the heat has been turned off, and select buildings already have their AC turned on. The intent is to have all air conditioning units turned on by April 15. Education & Career fair and Children’s fair

MCCS Henderson Hall is pleased to announce the return of two popular spring events: the Education & Career Fair, on Thursday, April 19, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and the 5th annual Children’s Fair Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Both events take place in Smith Gym.

Twilight Tattoo returning to Fort Myer

The US Army Military District of Washington Twilight Tattoo is moving to the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall for the summer. Troops to teacher’s event

UFC 145 at the Marine Club

The Marine Club will show the World Light Heavyweight Championship UFC 145 Jones vs. Evans Saturday, April 21. The club opens at 8 p.m. with food and beverage sales, and the fight starts at 10 p.m. Door prizes will be drawn throughout the evening. Spouse newcomer orientation

Spouse Newcomer Orientation will be held Tuesday, April 24 from noon - 1:30 p.m. Come join us as we learn about and explore Old Town Alexandria, using the Metro and all the local things you can do while stationed in the National Capital Region. Voting assistance workshop

JBM-HH will be hosting a Federal Voting Assistance Program workshop on April 18 from 9- 11 a.m. The training will be held in Bldg. 417, room 218 at the education center. The workshop is an interactive session for unit voting officers to learn the absentee voting process and sharpen their skills on voting practices. Participants will become familiar with the federal post card application (SF-76) process, the federal write-in absentee ballot and the use of the 2011-2012 voting assistance guide.

Construction near Wright Gate affects traffic

Dominion Virginia Power workers continue construction near Wright Gate in building the Radnor Heights substation from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. each day through April 23. Construction will be performed inside and outside the gate. No roads will be closed during the process and flagmen will be on site at all times to direct traffic. Construction at Fort McNair

Fifth Avenue on Fort McNair will be closed through April 27. Workers will place vinyl fencing and signs to direct traffic flow. The second phase of repair work will block 4th Avenue in front of Bldg. 59 (Industrial College of the Armed Forces) from the northern end of the building to D Street, beginning April 30 through May 21. Pedestrians will have access to the sidewalk on the northern end of Bldg. 59. For more information, call Kenneth Randle at 703-696-6393.

NDU hosts federal consortium

Please join us for the 5th Annual Federal Consortium of Virtual Worlds Conference (FCVW), held May 16-18 at the National Defense University (NDU) iCollege, located on Fort McNair. On May 16, workshops will be held on virtual world building, gaming, instructional design, data visualization and more. On May 17-18, the conference will feature keynote speakers from academia, government, and industry. Transition assistance programs

Army Career and Alumni Program and Marine Corps Community Services offer a variety of programs for transitioning military personnel. To find out about any upcoming programs, call ACAP at 703-696-0973 or visit them in Bldg. 230 or call 703-614-6828 to contact MCCS career resource management center. Courses offered include financial planning, evaluating employee benefits, veterans assistance workshops, retiring executive TAP, disabled TAP, resume workshops and other TAP courses.

Motorcycle safety

It’s that time of year when many explore alternative forms of transportation, namely motorcycles. Registration of a motorcycle on a DoD installation is contingent on presenting a MSF card at the time of registration (or other document, as outlined in regulation). MSF card is issued only to those who complete the BRC or ERC. In accordance with DODI 6055.4, this training is provided at no cost to the military and personnel shall not be charged leave to attend this training. Contact the Fort Belvoir safety office at 703-704-0649 to register for either the basic rider course or experienced rider course.

ANC shuttle service

Arlington National Cemetery now has new transportation options for visitors. The National Park Service began a shuttle service in the cemetery that will run from the visitor center to Arlington House. Hours of operation will be from 8:30 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. daily April through September, and from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. October through March.
