An off-site parking garage and new Maryland Transit Authority (MTA) bus routes are available to staff members at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC).

Off-site parking

Naval Support Activity Bethesda (NSAB) has acquired 200 off-site parking spaces in a garage located at 6720 Rockledge Drive, Bethesda, Md., about 15-minute mass transit commute from WRNMMC, according to Jeff Miller, transportation program manager at NSAB.

Parking is available from 5 a.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Saturday in the garage, which has an attendant and roaming security, Miller added.

Staff members issued a brown hanging tag and key fob for access to the garage will be guaranteed parking, Miller said. Staff can apply for the brown hanging tag and key fob for parking at the off-site garage at the Pass & ID office in Bldg. 102, at North Gate. Those already with a red, green, purple or yellow parking placard cannot receive the brown hanging tag or key fob for parking in the off-site garage, he added.

Although there is no charge for parking in the garage, to get to WRNMMC from the facility staff members must pay to take either the MetroBus (J line) or RideOn bus.

Miller explained the Metro J line is the most direct route to WRNMMC from the garage, and RideOn routes take people from the garage to the METRO Rail Stations (the 47 bus to Bethesda and the 96 bus to Grosvenor).

New MTA Route 203

The new MTA commuter bus route, No. 203, running from Columbia, Md., is now in service.

The bus makes three morning and three afternoon trips with intermediate stops at:

- Snowden River Park & Ride

- Columbia Town Center

- Scaggsville Park & Ride

- Burtonsville Park & Ride

- Medical Center Metro Station

A stop at the Georgia Avenue Park & Ride is scheduled to open in early 2012, according to Miller.

Miller said the Mass Transit Fringe Benefit program can be used to cover the bus fare, and parking is free in Park & Ride lots at scheduled stops along the bus route.

Additional MTA routes, which also began on Jan. 3, run from:

-Frederick to College Park

-College Park Metro to Germantown Transit Center (via Shady Grove Metro Station)
