National Support Activity Bethesda (NSAB) is working with a subscription bus service to provide transportation for staff from Bowie Town Center to the Bethesda Medical Center Metro station across the street from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). Currently, the company is determining the interest level in the possible commuter service at http://restonride.com/nsab/blog.

"A subscription bus service contacted us with interest in starting service to NSAB," said Ryan Emery, transportation program coordinator at NSAB. He added that there are limited mass transit options for employees at WRNMMC who travel from the Bowie, Md., area.

The tentative plan would be for buses to run from the Bowie Town Center to the Medical Center Metro at 5:29 a.m., and then from the Medical Center Metro to Bowie Town Center at 4:50 p.m. There is no-cost parking available at the pick-up point; however, these departure times are negotiable based on the feedback the bus service receives, said Jeff Miller, NSAB transportation program manager.

In addition to the commuter bus service, the Guaranteed Ride Home program will assist employees with four free rides home per year in the event of an emergency that requires early or late departure from the bus schedule. Staff must register for the GRH program at www.mwcog.org/commuter2/commuter/grh/index.html.
